Summary:

The most recent extension of Metro Line One, as part of the Wolverhampton Interchange project, presents opportunities for further network expansion to New Cross Hospital and beyond. Providing a rapid transit connection to essential services and significant local employment opportunities, the route would also provide rapid and convenient public transport access to the wider city for the high resident population on the corridor. The Metro line will share this corridor with a new high-quality continuous cycle route.

This will complement the proposed new rail services between Wolverhampton and Walsall. In the longer term, the potential use of tram-train technology could extend Metro further towards Willenhall, Darlaston and Walsall, replacing the rail service if appropriate.
